One Room Challenge - Week Three

Society Social

Welcome to Week Three of the One Room Challenge. Here is Week One and Week Two if you missed them. I have 6 weeks to convert our previous family room into a stylish Chinoiserie Man Cave for Mr. Chinoiserie Chic.

This past week I made great progress in the Chinoiserie Man Cave. The focal point of any man cave is a flat screen TV. I decided on the Ikea Besta Burs TV cabinet in the high gloss black and it was delivered and set-up. I got my husband a Samsung flat screen smart TV - his birthday was yesterday - and he is a very happy camper.

I am totally surprised by how much I am loving the palette of gray, black, and white, since I am such a color girl. I am adding lots of wonderful texture and it is more than making up for the lack of color.

On tap first this coming week is to style the bar cart. You may recall that I found a wonderful silver faux bois bar cart at HomeGoods. It's not huge, but it's the perfect size for the man cave. We have a large bar cart in the living room for entertaining, so this is ideal for my husband's private libations of choice.

I want to style a masculine but chic bar cart. Here is some inspiration.

This week I picked up the following for my masculine bar cart :

Some of my husband's favorite bottles of liquor - and even in my room colors of black and white!

I fell in love with that bronze bust of JFK in the top photo - my husband is from Boston. Miraculously, it took me about two seconds to find the identical one - signed 1964 - Austin Productions - in mint condition on Etsy.

I love adding a bit of safari chic whimsy - a pair of vintage Fitz and Floyd giraffes I won on eBay -

These are things I love to do in a room, so I am looking forward to these projects.

I am excited to see the progress everyone else has made this week -

Mystery Chinoiserie Fabric Revealed

Mia at Calico Corners

Last week I did a post on using large scale pattern Chinoiserie fabrics on chairs to create statement pieces of furniture. The two chairs below I had saved from One Kings Lane and they did not tell the name of the fabric. I got many emails asking about it.

I was able to track it down and it is very well priced and on sale right now at Calico Corners. This wonderful Chinoiserie fabric is named Mia and is on sale at $19.99 a yard. I also found it here for $18.99 a yard, with a 3 yard minimum. The manufacturer is Golding. It is a blend of 90% cotton and 10% linen.

Make sure to stop by tomorrow for Week Three of the One Room Challenge. I have had a busy week with lots of progress to report.

Sunday Inspiration - Setting the Chinoiserie Table

Alessandra Branca/House Beautiful
In this fun and chic table setting, Alessandra Branca mixes a blue and white striped tablecloth (fabric from her collection for Schumacher), with Chinoiserie china she has designed for Pickard. Her Fiamma and Pagoda china patterns combine Chinoiserie motifs with vibrant and colorful borders.

I love combining stripes and Chinoiserie and I love the color palette of blue, white, and pink. Small containers of flowers in lieu of one arrangement add to the casual vibe.

Fabulous Friday Finds

Welcome to the third edition of Chinoiserie Chic's Fabulous Friday Finds. Thanks for all the emails with positive feedback - so glad you are enjoying this new feature.

I love wonderful Chinoiserie fabrics at great bargains, so let's start again with one. Florals are HUGE this season. This Ralph Lauren Kikko in Onyx is so spot on - a Chinoiserie floral in neutrals. It retails for $330 a yard and I have found it for you for $17.95 a yard! This fabric is 100% linen. It would be absolutely stunning for curtains or a pair of chairs.

Chinoiserie Earrings

I love this next one. Cameroon juju hats are such a great decorating item but can be very expensive costing several hundred dollars. Here is an example of one. I'm crazy about them and have three! I love them used with Chinoiserie - mixing African pieces and Chinoiserie was one of my trends to watch for 2014.

Pottery Barn Kids has this great version made in Turkey and at excellent prices. I love the small coral pink one and it is only $39.00. I have a Pinterest board on juju hats for more ideas.

And last, two great finds from my girlfriend Andrea at The Glam Pad. An amazing pagoda bed ($100 or Make an Offer) and pagoda mirror ($75 or Make An Offer) dirt cheap from an eBay seller. These would be amazing painted in a high gloss white or another great color of your choice. Thanks Andrea! The seller is located in New Fairfield, Connecticut in case any of you in the New York metropolitan area could do a local pickup.
